Cyprus Language

In Cyprus, the official language is Greek. Cypriots write in Modern Greek but most speak Greek Cypriot, which is a dialect of Greek with words pronounced in a different way and other non-standard words due to the many nations and cultures that have ruled Cyprus through the ages.

English is considered to be the second language as it been taught in schools for years. The main reason for being so widely spoken is the influence of being a British colony for decades. In addition, thousands of people have lived, worked or were educated in the UK and US and thus speak perfect English.
